En los Museos Reales de Bellas Artes cuelga 'Bruselas por la mañana' de Joseph Stevens, de 1848. Bélgica aún no tenía 2 décadas, pero estaba en plena desesperación. Numeras plagas habían atormentado al país, y por todas partes había mendigos, vagabundos y bandas de ladrones. El cuadro muestra una camada de perros desnutridos y personas sin hogar a la luz del primer sol. El lugar donde este cuadro fue observado por Joseph Stevens estaba en el barrio europeo, que entonces era una zona de pobreza y sufrimiento.
