La reserva natural del Grand Courant se extiende en la orilla derecha del Sambre, río abajo de Thuin. Consiste en antiguos prados que ocupan una estrecha zona aluvial al pie del Bois Jean Boinval, a la altura de la presa del Grand Courant. El terreno está parcialmente forestado e incluye una zona ribereña pantanosa con juncos de orilla (Carex riparia), un cañaveral con caña común (Phragmites australis), áreas con dorina en ascenso (Chrysosplenium oppositifolium), un megaforbeo con álamos y matorrales de sauces y alisos. La fauna local es poco conocida debido a su difícil acceso. Se ha registrado recientemente una población importante de la pequeña hélice (Vertigo moulinsiana), un pequeño caracol que está protegido bajo la normativa de Natura 2000, así como el escarabajo de caña (Anisosticta novemdecimpunctata) y otros escarabajos interesantes.
Accesibilidad para el público: El terreno es de difícil acceso. No hay senderos transitables ni folletos informativos.
