Los municipios ocupados sufrieron a causa de los bombardeos aliados. Los aliados querían golpear la infraestructura alemana, pero también afectaron a la población civil. El 6 de septiembre de 1915, Lichtervelde fue sacudida por una serie de explosiones. Hubo muchos daños, entre ellos en la calle Beveren, y varios habitantes perdieron la vida.
