En la cima del Kemmelberg se erige desde 1932 un obelisco conmemorativo en memoria de los muchos soldados franceses caídos. Lucharon aquí en abril de 1918 durante la Batalla del Kemmelberg. Este ‘Monumento a los Soldados Franceses’ simboliza a la diosa romana de la victoria, Victoria. El obelisco se llama a menudo ‘El Ángel’. Este monumento tiene vista sobre la fosa común francesa al pie del Kemmelberg.
La fosa común se estableció al final de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Después de la 'Batalla del Kemmelberg' un gran número de caídos quedó en el campo de batalla. La fosa común es el lugar de descanso de más de 5,000 oficiales, suboficiales y soldados franceses de la Primera Guerra Mundial, de los cuales solo 57 personas pudieron ser identificadas.
