En el camino hacia el nudo 96, primero pasas junto a dos filas de impresionantes álamos canadienses. Una vez que los has pasado, verás al otro lado del Dender algunos árboles con un tronco muy pálido. Son álamos: álamos blancos o álamos grises. Desde aquí es difícil de ver: los dos se parecen mucho, ya que el álamo gris es un cruce natural del álamo blanco y el álamo temblón. El álamo blanco es originario del sur y centro de Europa y tiene hojas con un toque de lana blanca. El álamo temblón (sinónimo: álamo tembloroso) es una especie nativa con hojas redondas y un borde ondulado. Las tres especies son conocidas por su almacenamiento de raíces: de las raíces de un solo ejemplar pueden surgir nuevos árboles un poco más adelante. ¡Así que de un solo individuo puede convertirse en un pequeño bosque!
