Su significado es un refuerzo adelantado. Un Verloren Kost es una defensa temporal de la que se retira uno hacia el refuerzo real. Es literalmente una inversión perdida que según algunas fuentes consistía en una torre y a veces se encontraba en las murallas de la ciudad.
