Houthalen-Oost es un barrio jardín de Houthalen en el municipio belga de Houthalen-Helchteren, que sin embargo no está construido directamente en el núcleo de Houthalen, sino que está más bien conectado con el barrio de Zwartberg en Genk. Hasta 1960, ni siquiera se podía acceder directamente al núcleo de Houthalen desde Houthalen-Oost.
Houthalen-Oost está situado en el lado oeste, rodeado por las áreas naturales de Kelchterhoef y Tenhaagdoornheide y al sur por el área natural y recreativa de Hengelhoef. En el lado norte se encuentra el campo de tiro en la Donderslagse Heide. Allí también se encuentra el Dominio Masy.
