En el lugar de la antigua aldea se encuentran ahora los diques de petróleo de Amberes. Hasta antes del cambio, Oosterweel era la aldea más baja de Bélgica. En 1900, en su apogeo, vivían allí 1075 habitantes.
Al oeste del Castillo del Norte de Amberes, en la Kastelweg, se conserva en lo profundo la antigua iglesia de Oosterweel y un puente en la antigua Oosterweelsesteenweg como monumento.
