Koningshooikt, pedanía de Lier, donde el fabricante de autobuses Van Hool empezó como mecánico de bicicletas lo que ahora es una empresa de autobuses de renombre mundial. 3500 empleados trabajan allí diariamente en autobuses y vehículos industriales.
Las tres municipalidades (Walem, Koningshooikt, Lier) también tienen un fuerte, que forma parte del cinturón exterior de fortalezas alrededor de Amberes, construido entre 1877 y 1905. El fuerte de Walem es un área natural protegida donde durante años grandes colonias de murciélagos han encontrado su refugio. Otros fuertes se explotaron en los años setenta como tabernas con parque infantil o como estanques de pesca.
