Koningshooikt, deelgemeente van Lier, waar busbouwer Van Hool ooit als fietsenmaker begon aan wat nu een wereldbekend busbedrijf is. 3500 werknemers bouwen er dagelijks aan bussen en industriële voortuigen.
De drie gemeentes (Walem, Koningshooikt, Lier) hebben ook een fort, dat deel uitmaakt van de buitenste fortengordel rond Antwerpen, gebouwd tussen 1877 en 1905. Het fort van Walem is een beschermd natuurgebied waar al jaren grote kolonies vleermuizen hun onderkomen vinden. Andere forten werden in de jaren zeventig uitgebaat als taverne met speeltuin of als visput.
