Una vez, el escritor Omer Wattez estuvo junto al poeta Pol de Mont en la Torre de los Geuzen en el bosque musical de Ronse. Allí estaban, dos artistas de la palabra juntos, Wattez nacido en Schorisse, de Mont procedente de otra región flamenca. Impresionado por el relieve montañoso, exclamó asombrado: “¡Pero aquí son las Ardenas Flamencas!”
Pol de Mont puede ser el creador del nombre ‘Ardenas Flamencas’, pero es Omer Wattez quien ha puesto la región turística en el mapa. A finales del siglo XIX, escribió Una esquina de Flandes del Sur: Oudenaarde, Ronse y alrededores y en 1914 la guía más extensa Las Ardenas Flamencas. Paseos y excursiones en la tierra de Oudenaarde y Ronse. Además, también fue traductor y docente.
