Esta área de picnic está ubicada en la esquina de Lammerdam que nos lleva a Gulke Wells.
La reserva natural Gulke Putten está ubicada en el límite sur de lo que alguna vez fue el histórico Bulskampveld. Se extendía entre Gante y Brujas y era la zona de páramos más grande del condado de Flandes. El término 'campo' se refería a los páramos deshabitados. En estos suelos arenosos se encontró vegetación de brezo y pastizales pobres. A partir del siglo XV se plantaron bosques en las zonas periféricas.
En los mapas históricos encontramos numerosos estanques al sureste de Brujas. Estos 'estanques de campo' medievales tardíos se crearon para la piscicultura al represar los arroyos. El nombre 'By de Gulke Putten' también se referiría a esos estanques de peces.
