Este monumento se encuentra frente a la iglesia de Hertsberge. Conmemora a las víctimas de ambas guerras mundiales.
Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial hubo mucha actividad militar alemana en Oostkamp y Hertsberge. Todo esto tiene que ver con la favorable ubicación del municipio. El canal Gante-Brujas, el ferrocarril Bruselas-Ostende y la carretera principal Brujas-Kortrijk garantizan un fácil acceso. La distancia relativamente pequeña al frente es un activo adicional. Los numerosos castillos son un lugar de descanso para decenas de miles de soldados del frente alemán.
Los trabajadores flamencos y los prisioneros de guerra se despliegan para el comercio y transporte de material militar y municiones. Oostkamp tiene no menos de cinco aeropuertos alemanes. Poco después de la liberación, son utilizados por la fuerza aérea belga y por nuestro rey.
