Vismarkt al Dijle es el lugar para estar y el lugar más romántico y de moda para la vida nocturna en Mechelen.
Tras la muerte de Margarita de Austria en 1531 , se decidió trasladar la lonja a la actual lonja debido al olor a Préstec de Ferro . Hasta entonces, en realidad no se mencionaba el nombre de Vismarkt, sino el de "Nauwstraat" , que aún hoy se recuerda por una calle estrecha.
A partir de entonces, la plaza rectangular quedó separada del Dyle por un muro de ladrillos y protegida por rejas de hierro del siglo XX.
El Vismarkt ahora está vinculado a Haverwerf y Lamot Place por un puente de metal sobre Dyle y Haverwerf.
Hoy en día todavía hay algunas pescaderías, pero la mayoría de los negocios son cafeterías, cervecerías, restaurantes y 1 hotel de cuatro estrellas.
