El estanque de Riehen en el cantón de Basilea-Ciudad es un cuerpo de agua artificial que desvía alrededor de 5 m³/s de agua del río Wiese a lo largo de una distancia de 3,8 kilómetros; captando casi la mitad del caudal medio del Wiese. Construido a mediados del siglo XIII, el estanque de Riehen sirvió como canal comercial para diversos intereses de uso de agua y desembocaba en el Rin. Como estructura técnicamente obsoleta, fue mayormente desactivada en 1907/17 en dos etapas. Solo una sección se ha conservado, que desde 1923 conduce a la central eléctrica de Riehenteich en el parque forestal de Lange Erlen y de forma subterránea regresa al Wiese. Las posibilidades de producción relacionadas con el canal llevaron en el siglo XIX al desarrollo de Kleinbasel como un sitio industrial.
