Hohenrode es uno de los 31 distritos de la ciudad independiente de Salzgitter en Baja Sajonia, ubicado en la localidad de Süd. Con su ubicación en la frontera con el distrito de Goslar, es el distrito más al sur y además el más pequeño de Salzgitter.
El nombre del lugar se deriva del término "desmonte elevado", que se encuentra en una terraza por encima del Innerste. La terminación del nombre "rode" sugiere que el lugar fue fundado durante la fase de desmonte de los siglos XI-XII. La ubicación del asentamiento fue bien elegida, ya que allí había un vado a través del Innerste cercano. Su valle estaba muy pantanoso en ese entonces, y solo aquí, donde el valle se estrechaba significativamente por el cercano Gitterberg, era relativamente transitable.
