Kahler Asten es sin duda la montaña más conocida del Sauerland, pero no es la más alta. El Kahler Asten tiene 842 m de altura y está ubicado entre las aldeas de Alt- y Neuastenberg. Regularmente se considera erróneamente que el Kahler Asten es la montaña más alta de Renania del Norte-Westfalia. Sin embargo, esa es la Langenberg, que se encuentra en la frontera con Hesse.
