En el Brocken en el Harz se encuentran amplias instalaciones de transmisión, incluyendo un total de doce emisoras de radio: nueve emisoras de FM para radio analógica y digital y tres emisoras de televisión para la transmisión de paquetes de programas en formato digital DVB-T2 HD. Además, hay emisoras para telefonía móvil y microondas, una estación de radar MSSR de la Autoridad de Aviación Alemana y dos repetidores de radioaficionados.
Las primeras planificaciones de una red de emisoras para el nuevo medio de televisión comenzaron en 1934 por la Deutsche Reichspost. Junto con la emisora de televisión Paul Nipkow en Berlín-Witzleben, se consideraron como ubicaciones de emisores, entre otros, el Feldberg en Taunus, el Inselsberg en el Bosque de Turingia, así como Zugspitze, Schneekoppe y el Brocken. En su cumbre, se construyó entre 1936 y 1937 la primera torre de televisión alemana, que ahora sirve como hotel Brocken, torre de observación y estación de radar.
