Op de Brocken in het Harz bevinden zich uitgebreide zenderinstallaties, waaronder in totaal twaalf radiostations: negen FM-zenders voor analoge en digitale radio en drie televisiezenders voor de uitzending van programmabundels in het digitale formaat DVB-T2 HD. Daar komen zenders voor mobiele en richtfunk bij, een MSSR-radarstation van de Duitse luchtverkeersleiding en twee amateur-radio relais.
De eerste plannen voor een zendernetwerk voor het nieuwe medium televisie werden in 1934 door de Deutsche Reichspost gestart. Naast de televisiezender Paul Nipkow in Berlijn-Witzleben waren als zenderlocaties o.a. de Feldberg in het Taunus, de Inselsberg in het Thüringer Wald evenals de Zugspitze, Schneekoppe en de Brocken voorzien. Op zijn top werd tussen 1936 en 1937 de eerste Duitse televisietoren gebouwd, die nu als Brockenhotel, uitzichttoren en radarstation dient.
