El canal lateral del Elba es una vía fluvial federal en Baja Sajonia entre el canal Mittelland y el Elba. El canal de 115 km de largo va de Edesbüttel, al oeste de Wolfsburg, pasando por Uelzen hasta Artlenburg en el distrito de Lüneburg. La administración del ESK está a cargo de la oficina de carreteras y navegación Mittellandkanal/Elbe-Seitenkanal.
El canal fue planeado en 1965 bajo el nombre de canal Norte-Sur. El 6 de mayo de 1968 se realizó la primera palada en Artlenburg.
