El castillo de Herten es un castillo de agua en el borde occidental del centro de la ciudad de Herten, en el distrito de Recklinghausen. Se encuentra en medio de un antiguo jardín paisajístico inglés y fue mencionado por primera vez en un documento en 1376. Desde 1962, el edificio principal del complejo del castillo está bajo protección como monumento.
Los edificios actuales fueron construidos en los siglos XVI y XVII por el maestro de obras de Coesfeld, Henric de Suer, y su hijo Johann, para las familias von Stecke y von Nesselrode. Después de que el edificio principal fue abandonado como residencia tras la Primera Guerra Mundial, se deterioró cada vez más y amenazaba con colapsar debido a daños por minería. Solo una reforma exhaustiva por parte del Verband Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe de 1974 a 1989 salvó el conjunto gótico tardío de la completa ruina.
