La estación principal de Mönchengladbach es, después de la estación principal de Rheydt, la estación más grande de Mönchengladbach y forma, junto con el ZOB Hauptbahnhof/Europaplatz, el nodo de transporte central de la ciudad. Desde diciembre de 2009, de nuevo circulan trenes de larga distancia, además de que en la estación principal de Mönchengladbach paran regularmente numerosas líneas de transporte local. La estación reemplazó en 1908 a la primera estación de M.-Gladbach, inaugurada en 1851, pertenece a la clase de precios 2 y es una estación de cruce.
