La Orden Bertha fue establecida el 30 de mayo de 1910 por el Príncipe Leopoldo IV de Lippe como una orden de mérito para mujeres.
La insignia de la orden es una cruz de patas de bronce plateada y esmaltada en un tono violeta claro, con la parte inferior del brazo de la cruz ligeramente más larga. En esta se puede leer el año 1910. En el medallón esmaltado en rojo de la cruz, rodeado por una corona de laurel, se encuentran las iniciales L B, que están superpuestas y entrelazadas por la corona principesca. En la parte trasera del medallón, que también está rodeado por una corona de laurel, se encuentra la inscripción AL MÉRITO DE LA MUJER.
