El castillo de Müddersheim se encuentra en el borde del pueblo de Müddersheim, un barrio de Vettweiß, justo en el Neffelbach en el distrito de Düren, Renania del Norte-Westfalia.
Al principio de la historia documentada del castillo se encuentra la reina polaca Richeza, una nieta del emperador alemán Otto II. El arzobispo de Colonia Anno certifica en un documento de 1057, entre otras cosas, que le había concedido a Richeza, quien tuvo que abandonar el reino de Polonia en 1034 debido a la amenaza de círculos anti-alemanes y anti-cristianos tras la muerte de su esposo, el rey Mieszko II, el usufructo del castillo de Müddersheim. Tras la muerte de Richeza, Anno entregó el castillo de Müddersheim al capítulo de San Kuniberto en Colonia.
