Bodetal se llama el valle del Bode Caliente y del Bode Frío en el Harz. En un sentido más estricto, Bodetal se refiere solo al tramo del valle de aproximadamente diez kilómetros de longitud de la Bode entre Treseburg y Thale.
La Bode, que nace en el Brocken, la montaña más alta del Harz, se ha excavado allí en el duro granito del Ramberg. La garganta tiene aproximadamente 140 metros de profundidad cerca de Treseburg y alrededor de 280 metros en la transición a la llanura del Harz cerca de Thale. El Bodetal fue protegido desde el 5 de marzo de 1937 y posteriormente ampliado. Con una superficie actual de 473,78 hectáreas, es una de las áreas naturales protegidas más grandes en Sachsen-Anhalt. El Bodetal fue incluido en 2006 en la lista de los 77 Geotopos Nacionales destacados.
