Asbeck fue mencionado por primera vez en documentos en 1092. En el siglo XII se fundó un convento de damas nobles en Asbeck, que existió hasta 1805. A Asbeck le pertenecen las aldeas de Frettholt al norte del pueblo, Eißingort al este y Wehr al oeste. Desde el 1 de julio de 1969, Asbeck forma parte del municipio de Legden.
