La fábrica de Opel en Brandeburgo se estableció por iniciativa del gobierno nacionalsocialista por la Adam Opel AG en 1935, para garantizar el equipamiento de la Wehrmacht con camiones del tipo Opel "Blitz". En Brandeburgo an der Havel, se fabricaron más de 130,000 camiones y chasis desde noviembre de 1935 hasta la destrucción de la planta en agosto de 1944.
La superficie disponible de 850,000 m² en la ribera sur del canal Silokanals de Brandeburgo (zona industrial "Silokanal-Ost") no se utilizó completamente, sino que en grandes áreas se pudo seguir llevando a cabo la agricultura.
