El Condado de Tecklenburg fue un territorio del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico. Estaba ubicado en el círculo imperial de Westfalia y tenía una extensión de 330 km². Desde 1707, el condado fue parte de Brandeburgo-Prusia.
Alrededor del castillo de Tecklenburg, en el suroeste de Osnabrück, Ekbert I y los siguientes condes de Tecklenburg establecieron un extenso territorio de dominio entre los ríos Hunte y Ems. Hasta 1173, los condes poseían la advocación sobre el obispado de Münster. Entre 1180 y 1236, también estaban en posesión de la advocación del obispado de Osnabrück. En ese momento, el condado, junto con el condado rival de Ravensberg, era la mayor potencia en esta región. En las disputas por el poder a nivel imperial en los siglos XII y XIII, los tecklenburguenses apoyaban a Lothar de Süpplingenburg y a los Welfos. Simón I adquirió en 1189 el señorío de Ibbenbüren.
