Deggendorf es la ciudad-capital del distrito homónimo, en el estado de Baviera en Alemania. Los primeros vestigios de asentamientos en la zona se encuentran cerca del río Danubio desde hace unos 8000 años. En la Edad del Bronce, hallazgos arqueológicos indican la época de habitación continua a través de los años. Especial fama tienen sus chorizos de erizo que datan de la época de Carlos V y se exportan al resto de Alemania.
Deggendorf fue fundada el 20 de noviembre de 1002 por el futuro emperador Enrique II, situado en las orillas del Isar cerca del valle del Danubio. Cuando la casa de Wittelsbach tomaron el trono de la zona en el siglo XIII, la ciudad logró desarrollarse y expandirse y nuevos privilegios comerciales se dieron en el siglo siguiente.
