En la oficina Löcknitz-Penkun con sede en Löcknitz, 13 municipios y la asociación de propósitos del área industrial Klar-See se han unido para llevar a cabo sus asuntos administrativos. Se encuentra en el sureste del distrito de Vorpommern-Greifswald y forma el extremo sureste del estado federal de Mecklemburgo-Pomerania Occidental. La oficina limita al este con la República de Polonia y al sur y suroeste con el estado federal de Brandeburgo.
El municipio independiente de Mewegen fue incorporado como un distrito a Rothenklempenow el 1 de enero de 2005.
