El Klenderhof fue planificado en 1932 por el arquitecto berlinés Otto Firle por encargo de Charlotte Baldner, una hija del propietario judío de grandes almacenes Leopold Lindemann, quien había vendido sus 17 tiendas al consorcio Karstadt. El primer boceto fue realizado por Firle en la parte posterior de un menú del balneario de Kampen. La propietaria regaló la instalación a su esposo, el renombrado chelista Max "Bimbo" Baldner, quien había alcanzado fama internacional con el cuarteto Klingler. El 30 de enero de 1933, el día de la llegada al poder de Hitler, la construcción estaba terminada y en otoño la familia Baldner se mudó.
