El príncipe-obispo Otto III, conde de Rietberg (1301-1306), mandó construir el molino de Füchteln como molino de estado. Pertenece al castillo de agua Haus Füchteln, que era la sede ancestral de los caballeros de Kukelshem.

Con la apertura de la cuenca del Ruhr en el siglo XIX, el molino de agua también se utilizó como aserradero.
En el contexto de la ampliación del Stever, la planta de agua de Gelsenkirchen adquirió el antiguo derecho de embalse del molino de Füchteln, incluidos los edificios existentes. En 1992 se construyó una vivienda y una planta hidroeléctrica en los antiguos edificios. Justo cerca, frente a él, se encuentra la casa de campo del molino de Füchteln, restaurante y café (Kökelsumer Straße 66; 59399 Olfen).
