La aldea ubicada en el norte de Pegnitz-Kuppenalb es una de las 23 localidades oficialmente nombradas de la ciudad de Betzenstein, situada en Franconia Alta. Se encuentra a aproximadamente tres kilómetros y medio al sur del centro del pueblo de Betzenstein y se sitúa a una altitud de 508 m sobre el nivel del mar.
A través de las reformas administrativas llevadas a cabo a principios del siglo XIX en el Reino de Baviera, el lugar se convirtió en 1818 en parte de la comunidad rural independiente de Spies, que también incluía el pueblo parroquial de Riegelstein como sede de la comunidad, así como los pueblos de Eichenstruth e Illafeld. Más tarde se añadió también la aldea de Schermshöhe, que se formó en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. En el marco de la reforma territorial municipal en Baviera de los años 70, Eibenthal fue incorporado el 1 de enero de 1972 junto con toda la comunidad de Spies a la ciudad de Betzenstein. En 1987, Eibenthal contaba con dos habitantes.
