La iglesia de San Jacob con sus poderosas torres de ladrillo define la imagen del pueblo de Oeding, un barrio del municipio de Südlohn en el distrito de Borken en Renania del Norte-Westfalia.
Una primera mención documental de un castillo en Oeding data de 1353. Al sur de este castillo había una pequeña capilla. Alrededor del castillo y la capilla se desarrolló una pequeña aldea. El 5 de febrero de 1675 se celebró la primera misa en la capilla. Alrededor de 1680 debió asumirse la patrona del apóstol Santiago el Mayor en la capilla. En 1839 Oeding se convirtió en iglesia filial de San Vitus en Südlohn y el 25 de marzo de 1907 en parroquia de San Jacob.
