El Atazar es un municipio español de la provincia y Comunidad de Madrid. Cuenta con una población de 90 habitantes .[1]No se sabe con certeza el origen del nombre. Antiguamente era "Latazar", como se menciona en el Libro de la Montería de Alfonso XI. Se atribuye una raíz celto-germánica e incluso vasca, aunque la mayoría se inclina por una procedencia árabe.
