Ateca es una villa y municipio español de la provincia de Zaragoza, en Aragón. Cuenta con una población de 1729 habitantes y una densidad de 20,80 hab/km² .[3] Perteneciente a la Comunidad de Calatayud, es el segundo núcleo de población de la comarca, tras la capital bilbilitana. El término municipal, situada a unos 647 m sobre el nivel del mar, tiene una extensión de 84,70 km² y una densidad de 20,80 hab/km². Fue cabeza del partido judicial de Ateca hasta la reforma de 1965, cuando fue anexionada al de Calatayud. A nivel eclesiástico pertenece a la diócesis de Tarazona.[4]
