Almenara es un municipio de la provincia de Castellón en la Comunidad Valenciana, España. Pertenece a la comarca de la Plana Baja. Su población censada en 2019 era de 5.998 habitantes .[2]
El término Almenara proviene del árabe المنارة «el faro» o «la atalaya»,[3] a su vez derivado de نار «fuego». El nombre hace referencia a las torres árabes situadas en el cerro del Castillo, desde las que se encendían fuegos como señal de aviso. Existen topónimos similares en España como Almenara de Adaja, , Almenara de Tormes, , y otra ciudad con la misma denominación en Brasil, en el estado de Minas Gerais.[4]
