Tarrasa[2][3] , la antigua Égara romana y Egosa íbera, es una ciudad y municipio español de la provincia de Barcelona, en la comunidad autónoma de Cataluña. Comparte la capitalidad de la comarca del Vallés Occidental con Sabadell.
Dista unos 30 km de la ciudad de Barcelona, la capital de la provincia y de la comunidad autónoma. El municipio alcanzó en 2005 la cifra de 200 000 habitantes. En 2020 su censo era de 223 627 habitantes, lo que implica que sea la tercera ciudad más poblada de Cataluña, tras Barcelona y Hospitalet de Llobregat,[4] justo por delante de Badalona y la vigesimoprimera de España. Además, este municipio es un importante nudo de comunicaciones por carretera, autopista y ferrocarril. Cuenta con varias escuelas universitarias y es sede de la diócesis de Tarrasa.
