Almagro es una ciudad y municipio español de la provincia de Ciudad Real, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha. En 1972 su casco histórico fue declarado conjunto histórico-artístico. Cuenta con una población de 8983 habitantes .El topónimo deriva del árabe المغرة «la arcilla roja»,[2] haciendo alusión a la característica arcilla rojiza de la zona, de color almagre,[3] que está presente en el colorido de la plaza Mayor y otros edificios del municipio.
