Ibarra es un municipio español de la provincia de Guipúzcoa, comunidad autónoma del País Vasco. Fue fundado en 1802. Tiene una población de 4.225 habitantes .[1]
Ibarra es un topónimo transparente, ya que significa la vega en lengua vasca.[2] El pueblo ocupa una llanura en la orilla derecha del río Elduaran o Berástegui poco antes de que este desemboque en el río Oria, a escaso kilómetro y medio del centro de Tolosa.. El hecho de ubicarse en una feraz vega parece ser el motivo más probable de su denominación.[3] Aunque en la actualidad esta vega está en buena parte ya urbanizada, siguen existiendo huertas e Ibarra sigue teniendo fama por sus productos agrícolas, especialmente por una variedad local de guindilla conocida como guindilla de Ibarra.
