La plaça nova del gra o plaça oberta és l'antiga plaça del comerç. Es troba al centre de Figueres i va ser construïda l'any 1826 com a espai públic per a mercat. L'any 1887, Puig i Saguer va realitzar l'actual estructura de cobriment en ferro, fusta i teules, una de les construccions més originals i representatives de la ciutat, sota l'auspici dels Vilallonga, industrials del ferro figuerenc. Es tracta d'una estructura simple, però dotada d'una harmonia, que configura un espai singular. Les seves 36 columnes de ferro suporten un cobert que es destina a un colorit i animat mercat de queviures els dimarts, dijous i dissabtes, així com la Fira del Brocanter el tercer dissabte de cada mes.
