El Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de Garrotxa abarca el área volcánica de Olot y cuenta con unas 40 volcanes extinguidos. Aunque los volcanes están extinguidos, la región sigue siendo muy activa sísmicamente. En 1428, un gran terremoto causó alrededor de 20 muertes en Barcelona, que se encuentra a casi 100 km de aquí.
