La Universidad de Oñate , oficialmente Universidad del Espíritu Santo [1] fue una universidad española fundada en 1540 por bula de Paulo III. En la universidad llegó a contar con facultades de Leyes, Cánones, Artes, Medicina y Teología, hasta su clausura en 1842.
La universidad sufrió numerosos altibajos debido a motivos económicos y a la tensión entre carlistas y liberales. Fue reabierta durante la Tercera Guerra Carlista bajo el nombre Real y Pontificia Universidad Vasco-Navarra y de nuevo entre 1895 y 1901, cuando fue definitivamente clausurada por falta de medios económicos.
