La batalla de Vitoria fue librada el 21 de junio de 1813 entre las tropas francesas que escoltaban a José Bonaparte en su huida y un conglomerado de tropas españolas, británicas y portuguesas al mando de Arthur Wellesley, el futuro duque de Wellington.La victoria aliada sancionó la retirada definitiva de las tropas francesas de España y forzó a Napoleón a devolver la corona del país a Fernando VII por el tratado de Valençay de 1813.
