La basílica-catedral de Santa María de Tortosa, es sede de la diócesis de Tortosa en la provincia de Tarragona. El actual edificio es gótico, iniciado el año 1347, y fue edificado sobre uno anterior románico; se consagró por primera vez en 1441 y las fases de construcción continuaron hasta llegar a la fachada barroca, iniciada en la década de 1620 y dejada sin terminar en 1757.[2] Se encuentra situada en el centro de la ciudad de Tortosa a orillas del río Ebro. Las excavaciones arqueológicas, han puesto de manifiesto que aproximadamente en este mismo lugar se encontraba el foro romano.
