Las Columnas de Hércules fueron un elemento legendario de origen mitológico, referido en la Antigüedad a los promontorios que flanquean el estrecho de Gibraltar. Era el límite del mundo conocido por los griegos hasta que, según el historiador griego Heródoto, Coleo de Samos lo atravesó[1] en torno al siglo VII antes de Cristo.
