El Mar Menor[1] es una albufera de agua salada del mar Mediterráneo situada en la Región de Murcia, al sureste de España. Se trata de la albufera española de mayor extensión, disponiendo de valores medioambientales que le hacen contar con numerosas figuras de protección, incluida en la lista Ramsar. Sus especiales características lo convierten en un destino turístico de gran importancia, dentro del turismo de sol y playa[2]. En 2019, el Mar Menor ofertaba casi la mitad de las plazas hoteleras de la región, una mayoría de ellas situadas en La Manga del Mar Menor.[3]
