El Ebro es un río del noreste de la península ibérica, el segundo más largo y caudaloso de esta, tras el Tajo y el Duero respectivamente.[nota 1] Discurre enteramente por España. Entre los ríos que desembocan en el mar Mediterráneo solo es superado en longitud por el Nilo.Recorre el extremo nororiental de la península ibérica, a través del valle homónimo, situado en una depresión. Sigue una dirección noroeste-sureste desde su nacimiento en el municipio cántabro de la Hermandad de Campoo de Suso hasta el Mediterráneo, en el que desemboca formando el delta del Ebro, entre los términos municipales de Deltebre y San Jaime de Enveija, ambos en la provincia de Tarragona.
