Predominantemente en dirección oeste-este, discurre por el valle que se abre entre la vertiente sur de la Serra de Querol, el macizo del Port del Comte y la vertiente norte de la Serra de la Creu del Codó en la primera mitad de su recorrido y la del Serrat de la Creueta en la segunda.
Comienza en el Coll de Jou a 1.459 metros sobre el nivel del mar y desemboca en el embalse de la Llosa del Cavall a 800 metros sobre el nivel del mar, tras pasar por Vilamantells y dejar a su izquierda el pueblo de Sant Llorenç de Morunys.
