El Jardin des Plantes es el principal jardín botánico de Francia. El jardín fue plantado originalmente por Guy de La Brosse, el médico de Luis XIII, en 1626 como un jardín de hierbas medicinales. Originalmente se conocía como el Jardin du Roi. En 1640 se abrió al público.
El Jardin des Plantes mantiene una escuela botánica, que forma botánicos, construye jardines de demostración e intercambia semillas para mantener la diversidad biótica.
Un gran invernadero Art Deco y casas de invierno mexicanas y australianas exhiben plantas regionales, no nativas de Francia.
